jetScrewed

I used to think jetBlue was kind of cool. They seemed a little edgier and modern – heck they have cheaper flights and free TV.

However, this weekend, I got the opportunity to discover their major flaw – no infrastructure. Here’s the lowdown:

  1. Booked a flight in March to go out on a red-eye flight from Denver to Boston at midnight on Thursday. This was for a wedding I was to be best man in.
  2. Night of the flight, we get a call saying it’s been cancelled due to weather.
  3. Since jetBlue only flies once a day to Denver we would need to wait a full day, meaning I would miss the wedding rehearsal. jetBlue doesn’t respect rule 240, which says airlines need to put you on the next available flight (even it it’s another airline) if there is a cancellation.
  4. jetBlue gives us the choice of a credit, refund, or book another flight
  5. I book a United flight at an inflated fare for the next morning
  6. I try to book Kristin on jetBlue flight for the next day, but by then it’s been booked up
  7. I buy Kristin a different United flight at an inflated fare going through Dallas
  8. Kristin goes to Dallas. My flight is overbooked and they bump me.
  9. I get free round trip tickets on United, but need to fly standby on the next flight
  10. Kristin and I get into Boston at around the same time and I get to the church just as everyone is leaving.
  11. Flying back, jetBlue cancels our flight due to…weather!
  12. jetBlue puts Kristin and I on two different flights, hers at noon and mine at night. I will spend a full day on my computer in the airport
  13. jetBlue tells Kristin the wrong departing time over the phone so we show up an hour late and miss the flight
  14. jetBlue puts Kristin on another flight to Salt Lake City
  15. I sit here all day and pray that there are no dark clouds overhead

The problem is that jetBlue hardly has any flights and they don’t put you on other airlines if they have a problem with a flight. That means that if there are any hiccups, you’re most likely going to get jetScrewed. Just a heads up. :-)
